Mesothelioma
Several men and women living in our area may have been employed in jobs that exposed them to asbestos. This material was once popular among manufacturers and builders because of its resistance to heat or electrical and chemical damage. Asbestos also provided excellent sound absorption and tensile strength.
When asbestos is used for its resistance to fire or heat, the fibers are often mixed with cement or woven into fabric or mats. Asbestos was used in some products for its heat resistance, and in the past was used on electric oven and hotplate wiring for its electrical insulation at elevated temperature, and in buildings for its flame retardant and insulating properties, tensile strength, flexibility, and resistance to chemicals.
Today we know that asbestos is a very toxic material. The inhalation of asbestos fibers can cause serious illnesses, including malignant mesothelioma, lung cancer, and asbestosis (a type of pneumoconiosis). Since the mid 1980s, most developed countries have banned asbestos
When the effects of asbestos exposure came to be known by manufacturers and users of this material, many did not take action to address the problem. They continued to use asbestos, exposing many employees to it on a daily basis. They failed to tell their workers about the risks and hazards and let them continue to work and breathe in the asbestos dust. This would eventually cost many of their employees their lives.
Mesothelioma has a very long latency period, and it can be decades after the exposure to asbestos before the disease manifests itself. That is why many people are now being diagnosed with mesothelioma after being exposed to asbestos. And with the diagnosis of the disease comes the right to file a lawsuit against the company or companies responsible for their disease.
If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with mesothelioma, compensation may be available. If a claim is not made as soon as possible it may be too late. It is, therefore, important to contact our firm and check how long you have to file a lawsuit.
Families and loved ones of mesothelioma patients who have passed away should also make contact with us as soon as possible.
If you are diagnosed with mesothelioma, or a family member who is claiming on behalf of a deceased loved one, you should inquire about your lawsuit as soon as possible to increase your chances of a successful settlement.
There are many legal options to discuss. We may have to hire an investigator to determine when and where you or your loved one was exposed to asbestos. All this takes time, and with the time limitations, it means that you need to get going as soon as you can.
We will work with you on a contingency fee basis - that is, a percentage of whatever your final settlement figure is - you will not need to worry about costs or paying our for, if your lawsuit is unsuccessful.
Please call us. We can discuss various options, the chance of success of your lawsuit and whether you should proceed.
